Sigma Electronics Introduces Sabre Series Modular Signal Management System

New Frame Enables Superior Digital/Analog Video and Audio, Signal Processing To Operate Simultaneously From a Single, Unique Flexible Frame

Las Vegas, Nev., April 18, 2005 – Sigma Electronics, Inc., an innovator of high-qual ity, cost-effective digital and analog switching, generation, and distribution products for television, radio, and cable, announced today the introduction of the Sabre Series Modular Signal Management System, designed to offer superior digital and analog video and audio signal processing and uncompromising flexibility in a single frame.

The frame and its components were introduced at the National Association of Broadcasters convention (NAB), held at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Sigma is located in Booth SU10345.

“’Thinking inside the box’ is one way to understand the revolutionary nature of our new Sabre frame system,” said Bill Swilley, president and CEO of Sigma Electronics. “For the first time, broadcasters can configure a single frame to handle distribution, generation, conversion and routing for video, analog and digital audio. It offers plug-and-play flexibility to add, move, replace or remove any processing unit, depending on the configuration required by a facility, or a specific project. ‘Cutting edge’ definitely applies to our Sabre series frame system.”

The Sabre Series Modular Signal Management System is a highly flexible system for simultaneously housing and operating a wide variety of signal processing equipment. Unique among frames, Sabre frames are designed to handle distribution, generation, conversion and routing modules side-by-side in complete harmony. Available modules include: analog audio and video distribution, digital audio and video distribution, black signal generation, color bar generation, transcoding and audio and video routing.

Sabre systems are the only modular systems capable of providing three distinct reference signals (including HD) to each module at all times.

Each module front-loads into a frame-slot equipped with compatible power and control capabilities, simplifying maintenance and installation. A single Sabre frame can hold up to 24 discrete modules with all frames able to accommodate redundant power supplies and system controllers. Moreover, all frames may be controlled or queried via the standard serial and TCP/IP ports.

The frame is flexible enough to handle modules of various sizes and capabilities, or modules requiring more space and power than other standard units. Frames can be temporarily or permanently modified to meet the needs of a specific module.
